Accessibility

At YCC we are dedicated to making our church activities accessible for as many people as possible. We have an accessibility team that meets regularly to discuss ways that we can make our church spaces accessible to everyone including disabled people, those with English as an additional language, low-income households, families and single people. If you would like to contact the team with a question or a suggestion, either use our contact page, or email:

Access at Burnholme

The Centre @ Burnholme Access Information

On Sundays we meet in The Centre @ Burnholme which is a library and community space. Click here to find out details of the accessibility of the building and the provisions available.

Hearing Assistance

Hearing assistance is provided in the main hall during Sunday services. If you have hearing aids or earphones with AuracastTM, you can connect using your smartphone. If you have T-coil (induction loop) hearing aids or wired earphones, you will need to borrow a receiver from the Connect Point. Follow the Hearing Assistance Guide or speak to a member of the Welcome Team.

Seating

In the main hall at Burnholme there are plastic chairs with backs but without handles. There are two types of chair available (black chairs and purple chairs), you may like to try both types of chair to see which works best for you. We have cushions available to borrow from the connect point if you find sitting on the chairs for the duration of the service challenging.

There is space available at the back of the hall for wheelchairs and pushchairs. If you would like to sit on your wheelchair elsewhere in the hall, speak to a member of the welcome team who can organise to move the chairs in the space you would like to sit.

Connect Point

We have a clearly signed ‘connect point’ at the front of the hall by the entrance at every Sunday service. A church leader can always be found here to chat after the service. There will be a notice during the service featuring a photo and the name of the person at Connect Point that week, so you know who to look for.

They’ll be available at the Connect Point after the service to chat to you if you wish to find out more about our church events and getting connected, or about exploring faith.

You can also chat to the person on Connect point to sign up for events, as an alternative to signing up via a QR code during the service.

A range of resources can be found at the Connect point from the beginning of the service each week including:

  • Welcome booklets for newcomers and students to find out more.
  • Printed copies of our church notices
  • Sensory tools, ear defenders, cushions and hearing loop receivers for anyone who wishes to use them during the service.

Slides

If you would like to be able to see the sermon slides and notes during the service on your own screen, or to review later on, you can use this link to our Sermon slides, or scan the QR code featured in the notices at the beginning of every service.

Families

At YCC we actively involve children in our Sunday Services. There is a dedicated space at the front of the hall where supervised children can sit on foam mats so that they are able to see the service and move freely. We provide flags and musical instruments which children and adults alike can use during sung worship. We use craft/game activities to include children in our church notices.

Please see our pages for information about children’s provision and information about youth provision during the services.

Information about baby change facilities at Burnholme can be found on the AccessAble webpage for The Centre @ Burnholme.

During baptism services, we have a room available should you wish to take your child to a separate space during the baptism. This room has windows that look into the main hall and speakers which will provide the audio from the service so that you can remain engaged with the service.

Communion

We share communion during our Sunday service every four weeks. Any one who knows and trusts Jesus as their saviour, is very welcome to participate in this with us. If you do not wish to participate in communion please feel free to remain in your seat, and pass on the bread and juice if it is offered to you.

The ‘bread and wine’ consists of gluten free and vegan bread, and grape juice so that all who wish to, can participate in communion with us.

Access at Cornerstone

Physical Access

There is a ramp up to the entrance to the building. The external and internal doors, and indoor hall space provide sufficient space for access of ______ width wheelchairs or mobility scooters. The interior of the building is all on one level. There is an accessible toilet with baby change facilities.

Hearing Assistance

The main hall at Cornerstone is fitted with a T-loop, you can use the T-loop if you have T-coil (induction loop) capable hearing aids and you are at an event where the speakers are in use. To access audio via the loop, switch your hearing aids to the T position.

Seating

At Cornerstone the chairs have cushioned seats and backs, some of the chairs also have handles.

Financial accessibility

Many of the events we host are free. For those events for which we do charge, we keep costs as low as possible, and offer subsidies for those who may be unable to pay full price. We do not want price to be a barrier to anyone attending one of our events. If this is an issue for you regarding any event you wish to attend, please do either speak to someone at our connect point on Sunday, or email the church office from our Contact page, so we can cover or subsidise the price for you accordingly.

We do take an ‘offering’ during each of our Sunday morning services. This is an opportunity for those who regularly attend our church to give financially if they wish to. There is no pressure or expectation to give at this time, and you will see many people pass the bag on without contributing, so there is no need to worry about standing out if you do not wish to/ have the means to give financially.
